Felt like there was no good and constantly updated halal food guide for overseas. So starting up halalmana, with data curated by me initially.

Will see how it goes overtime, might add user-submitted halal shops

The ultimate goal is to create an up-to-date curation of halal/muslim-owned/muslim-friendly eateries, so independant travelers can easily plan their trips around areas with good halal food

Tech stack

Base code was mostly generated by claude code, initially wanted to start out with mapbox, but seemed unnecessary as providing a “Directions” google map link seemed much more useful

Starting out super simple, React + Vite and deployed on Cloudflare pages. Bought domain name halalmana to lock in on this project actually setting off.

Datasource will just be a json file for now, until it gets too huge will probably look to using sqlite/actual DB
